Women's basketball announces 2021-22 campaign

ABILENE – A new team, a new league, a new year, and a brand new schedule. Sensing a theme? New is the word when talking ACU women's basketball, and the 2021-22 schedule has been finalized as the program shifts into a new era. The Wildcats enter their first season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference, and it comes with plenty of new opponents (and some familiar ones, too). Along with an 18-game WAC slate comes an 11-game non-conference schedule and a pair of scrimmages. Altogether it is a 29-game regular season that culminates with the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, which takes place March 9-12 with 10 teams.

ACU is located in the WAC Southwest Division, which features familiar names such as SFA, Sam Houston, and Lamar. The Wildcats will also see new faces in Tarleton, Dixie State, and UTRGV. All six of those opponents appear twice on ACU's schedule, while the league's West Division (Utah Valley, Grand Canyon, New Mexico State, Seattle U, California Baptist, and Chicago State) will be on the slate one, splitting home and away with those teams.

ACU's non-conference slate is highlighted by a trip to Manhattan, Kan. to battle the Big 12's Kansas State the Tuesday before Thanksgiving; the holiday week ends with a tournament in Tulsa, Okla. hosted by Oral Roberts that features games against Little Rock and Arkansas State. Wright State, Oral Roberts, and Northern Colorado will then all come to Abilene in a week's span in the middle of December, giving ACU the most amount of Division I games (26) it has ever had on one schedule.

SEASON TICKETS

November's six dates

  • ACU is out of the gate with three home games, starting with the season opener against the University of the Southwest from New Mexico.
  • The ‘Cats will host the first Kids’ Day since 2019 when Angelo State comes to town Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m.
  • The Thanksgiving week is highlighted by the trip to K-State and the Oral Roberts Tournament (Little Rock, Arkansas State). It's the first Thanksgiving trip since 2019.

Home for the Holidays

  • The Wildcats open December in Thibodaux, La. against a familiar team, the Nicholls Colonels. However, this time, it is not a Southland Conference game. ACU takes on their former conference opponent Dec. 4.
  • Then it is five in a row at home to close out the month. Wright State (Dec. 12), Oral Roberts (Dec. 15), Northern Colorado (Dec. 19), and McMurry (Dec. 21) all come to the Teague Center before Christmas.
  • ACU then opens WAC play for the first time ever with a home game against Utah Valley on Dec. 30.

Thursday's and Saturday's in January

  • January includes nine conference games, all taking place on a Thursday and a Saturday, with the new year (literally) beginning Jan. 1 against Dixie State at home.
  • It's all about travel partners. ACU heads to SFA and Sam Houston the same weekend, then hosts Grand Canyon and New Mexico State the third weekend of the month.
  • The longest trip by far will take place Jan. 20 and 22 against Seattle U and California Baptist. Trips to Washington (1,900 miles) and California (1,200 miles) will be the longest trips in league play.
  • The month ends with games against UTRGV and Lamar at home.

Six Pack in February

  • ACU hits the road again, this time to the Windy City. It's an 1,084-mile trip to Chicago to battle Chicago State. It's the only meeting against the Cougars, who are leaving the WAC at the end of the 2021-22 season.
  • That game against Chicago State is on a Wednesday, and that following Saturday features a trip to Edinburg, Texas to battle UTRGV. No doubt that is a long road trip weekend.
  • Tarleton and Sam Houston come to Abilene in the middle of the month. It'll be the first meeting of the season against the former Lone Star Conference rival in Tarleton.
  • ACU heads to Lamar and hosts SFA in the same weekend to close out the month. The home game with SFA is the final home game of the season.

Final two in March, then it's on to Vegas

  • The Wildcats will head to Dixie State in Utah and Tarleton to close out the regular season, March 2 and 5.
  • The WAC Tournament will be March 9-12 in Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena with the top 10 teams competing for a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
