ABILENE – A new team, a new league, a new year, and a brand new schedule. Sensing a theme? New is the word when talking ACU women's basketball, and the 2021-22 schedule has been finalized as the program shifts into a new era. The Wildcats enter their first season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference, and it comes with plenty of new opponents (and some familiar ones, too). Along with an 18-game WAC slate comes an 11-game non-conference schedule and a pair of scrimmages. Altogether it is a 29-game regular season that culminates with the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas, which takes place March 9-12 with 10 teams.
ACU is located in the WAC Southwest Division, which features familiar names such as SFA, Sam Houston, and Lamar. The Wildcats will also see new faces in Tarleton, Dixie State, and UTRGV. All six of those opponents appear twice on ACU's schedule, while the league's West Division (Utah Valley, Grand Canyon, New Mexico State, Seattle U, California Baptist, and Chicago State) will be on the slate one, splitting home and away with those teams.
ACU's non-conference slate is highlighted by a trip to Manhattan, Kan. to battle the Big 12's Kansas State the Tuesday before Thanksgiving; the holiday week ends with a tournament in Tulsa, Okla. hosted by Oral Roberts that features games against Little Rock and Arkansas State. Wright State, Oral Roberts, and Northern Colorado will then all come to Abilene in a week's span in the middle of December, giving ACU the most amount of Division I games (26) it has ever had on one schedule.
