NORMAN, Okla. — Abilene Christian junior
Bryce Dooley and senior Garett Glanton this week were tabbed Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for Division I by the Golf Coaches' Association of America (GCAA).
Dooley, who earlier this year was voted Second Team Southland Conference All-Academic, finished the season with a 74.3 scoring average over 28 rounds, playing in 10 of the Wildcats' 11 tournaments in 2018-19. His best finish was eighth place at The Big Texan when he became the only Wildcat all season to shoot below par in all three rounds as he carded scores of 71-67-70 to finish at 8-under-par 208.
A native of Friendswood, Texas, Dooley finished tied for 18th at the Southland championship tournament at 13-over-par 229 in earning third-team honors. He additionally compiled six under-par rounds on the season (combined 15-under-par in those rounds) and five more even-par rounds. His best score on the season with a 5-under-par 67 in the second round of The Big Texan on March 25.
In his final year with the Wildcats, Dallas-product Glanton competed through 30 rounds in 11 tournaments in which he produced an average of 75.47 shots per round. His best round of 69 was carded over the first 18 holes at the Trinity Forest Invitational and during the third and final round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite, where he placed 25th of 96 competitiors.
It was a record setting year for the award as 540 student-athletes earned the title of All-America Scholar, the most since the awards inception in 1982. Out of the 540 honorees, 266 players were Division I selections, 112 in Division II, 23 NAIA recipients, and 18 NJCAA award winners. 2019 marks the first year in which NJCAA players are eligible for the award.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in there last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
