UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - Abilene Christian men's golf heads to the Pacific Northwest to compete in the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational presented by L.A.B. Golf at Chambers Bay on Monday and Tuesday. It's the Wildcats' penultimate regular season tournament and follows three consecutive top-four performances.
Chambers Bay is regarded as one of the top public golf courses not only in Washington state, but in the nation. The site of the 2015 U.S. Open Championship and 2010 U.S. Amateur is set across 249 acres beneath the backdrop of the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
Teams will get started with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. (CT) Monday. ACU will travel with a lineup of Thomas Buisson, Tres Hill, Jack Hollingsed, Grégoire Hoyeau and Colin Leonard.
It's the Wildcats' second year in a row competing at the Redhawk Invitational and third time overall. ACU tied for second at the event in 2022 when it was shortened to one round.
The No. 148 Wildcats join a 14-team field including No. 100 UC San Diego, No. 142 Gonzaga, No. 143 George Mason, No. 145 Idaho, No. 152 Seattle U, No. 156 Utah Tech, No. 159 Sacramento State, No. 167 Creighton, No. 189 St. Thomas, No. 212 Eastern Washington, No. 240 UC Riverside and No. 272 New Haven.
ACU has found its groove with a fourth-place finish in its last three tournaments and four of its last five. The Wildcats were last in action amongst 16 teams at the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas on March 16-17.
Hill delivered his best performance as a Wildcat, tying for fourth place at 5-over 221. He was one of three ACU golfers in the top 25, pacing the field on par-4 holes at 2-over and tying for the third-most birdies with 10. He was followed by Buisson in a tie for 19th place at 11-over 227 and Leonard drawing for 25th at 13-over 229.
Buisson has been the definition of consistency this season, placing within the top 25 at eight of nine events and never finishing below 32nd. He drew for second at the Military City Collegiate presented by USAA and was named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Men's Golfer of the Week by the Western Athletic Conference.
Leonard has begun to hit his stride, placing 26th or better at each of his last three events. Fellow sophomore Hollingsed was also in action at Golf Club of Houston at the All-American Individual, placing seventh as one of two Wildcats within the top 10.
