ABILENE - Highlights, news and notes from the Wildcats' 45-20 win over Houston Baptist ...
- Senior running back Tracy James surpassed 3,000 all-purpose yards with 135 Saturday vs. the Huskies. His career total of 3,062 leaves him 20 yards shy of tying Daryl Richardson for 12th place at ACU.
- With a season-high 118 net yards tonight, James now has five 100-yard games and zoomed into seventh place all-time at ACU with 2,205 career rushing yards. His 469 carries rank him fifth at the school, and his 22 rushing TD are tied for eighth with Kelly Kent, Jimmy Hirth and Taber Minner.
- With 182 points, James needs four more points to crack ACU's all-time top-10 scoring list as he is only the eighth Wildcat (non-QB) to score 30 or more career TD.
- James still leads the Southland Conference with 13 touchdowns but slipped to second in the FCS behind VMI's Alex Ramsey (15).
- Sophomore quarterback Sema'J Davis' 75-yard run from scrimmage to begin the second half is tied for the 25th longest in school history with Billy McCrary (Baylor, 2018) and three others. That run also is the second longest TD run by a Wildcat QB since Elbert Anderson took off for an 88-yard score in 1932 vs. Daniel Baker.
- Davis' 148 net yards rushing are the most by a Wildcat quarterback in a single game and a team season single-game high for 2019.
- Davis and James are only the third ACU QB / RB duo of the DI / Southland era to rush for more than 100 yards in a single game. QB John David Baker ran for 102 and RB Charcandrick West rushed for 139 in a 2013 win over McMurry, and the following season vs. Central Arkansas, RB De'Andre Brown ran for 171 yards and signal caller Kade Munden had 101.
- Senior wide receiver Josh Fink recorded his fifth career 100-yard receiving game behind a single-game best 12 receptions and season high 112 yards and TD, which is the 13th of his career. He is the first to catch 12 or more passes in a game since Taylor Gabriel caught 15 at New Mexico State on Oct. 26, 2013.
- Fink's five 100-yard receiving games ties him for 10th at ACU wit Darrel Cantu-Harkless, Richard Williams and Pat Holder. Edmond Gates holds the all-time record of 13. His 12 receptions were the most by any Wildcat since Justin Miller caught 10 passes vs. Sam Houston State in Nov. 2017, and tied Ronnie Vinson and David Rucker for seventh place on the Wildcats' single-game record list.
- Fink (112 yards) and sophomore WR Kobe Clark (107) became the first Wildcat duo to each surpass 100 yards receiving in a single game since Oct. 31, 2015 when Cedric Gilbert caught three passes for 122 yards and Carl Whitley, eight for 100 and a TD.
- Fink tonight went over 2,000 career receiving yards (2,001) in becoming only the 10th Wildcat in program history to reach this milestone. His 159 receptions are also the fourth most in school history.
- In his first game back from injury, junior quarterback Luke Anthony completed 30-of-43 passes for 280 yards with 0 INT and three TD. He now has 5,379 total yards, which ranks him 10th among all ACU total offense leaders, and his 46 career TD are good for fifth all time. Anthony tonight also recorded his longest rush of 18 yards.
- Anthony has 13 games with 250+ passing yards, which moved him into sixth place - one ahead of Dallas Sealey, who had 12 between 2015-17.
- Freshman Gage Graham is only the second Southland Conference player this season to have a kickoff return for a touchdown. His43-yard kickoff return for a touchdown off an onside kick attempt was the Wildcats' first since Sept. 24, 2016 at Stephen F. Austin (Justin Miller, 93 yards) and marked ACU's first onside kick recovery since a Sept. 1, 2018 game vs. HBU.
- The Wildcat defense came away with one sack, five tackles for loss and an interception. ACU's D is No. 9 in the FCS with 3.00 sacks per game, and with a +1 turnover margin, the Wildcats' rank 11th in the FCS and second in the Southland.
- ACU has not committed a turnover in consecutive games for the first time since Sept. 30 - Oct. 14, 2017.
- With 7.0 solo tackles tonight senior linebacker Jeremiah Chambers moved up to No. 9 in the FCS and No. 1 in the Southland with 6.0 per game.
Looking ahead to Saturday's homecoming opponent, Stephen F. Austin ...
- ACU leads the all-time series 10-9 but is on a three-game series losing streak. The Wildcats have won six of eight meetings vs. the Lumberjacks in Abilene, but lost the 2017 game at Anthony Field, 20-10. SFA won on its home field last year, 24-21.
- ACU's all-time record on Homecoming is 54-35-1. The Wildcats are 4-2 on this date since moving up to DI / Southland Conference in 2013. ACU and SFA met on Homecoming three times in five years between 1979 and 1983. The Wildcats won 31-0 and 24-10 in 1981 and 1983 but lost 27-21 during their 1979 meeting.
- The Lumberjacks are coming off a bye and are 1-5 overall (1-2 Southland) following a 31-20 loss two weeks ago to Sam Houston State.
- SFA has two defensive TD this season
- SFA ranks 14th in the FCS / 2nd in the Southland with a .920 Red Zone offense thanks to FG kicker Storm Ruiz, who is top-20 in the FCS with a .875 FG percentage, 2.33 FG per game and 9.5 points per game.
