DALLAS – Senior Autumn Crossnoe Bellow won all three of her singles matches this past weekend at the SMU Invitational in the No. 7 Draw. The Amarillo native defeated opposition from Georgia State, Central Oklahoma and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in winning one of two brackets for the Wildcats. The second final was won by the No. 4 draw doubles team of freshman
Sylvia Viljoen and senior
Jordan Henry.
Henry originally was paired with sophomore Illeana Mocciola, and Viljoen was part of a mixed team with Austin Peay's Ana Albertston; however, after Mocciola dropped out due to injury, Henry and Viljoen combined to win their second-round match, 6-4, over Central Oklahoma's Nikki Boyar and Paola Landin, and then doubled up the Georgia State duo of Lara Vovk / Anastasia Grosheva, 6-3, in the final.
Vovk and Landin were the first two opponents for Crossnoe Bellow, and she defeated them by scores of 7-6 (6), 6-4, and 6-1, 6-2. In the final, the senior topped Islander Mariya Shumeika, 6-3, 6-2.
Two additional Wildcats won at least two singles matches. Junior
Sarah Eleanor Adams beat players from Houston and Austin Peay before falling to SMU's Vivienne Kulicke in the No. 3 singles draw final, 7-5, 6-4, and in the No. 4 draw, sophomore
Nini Memishishi defeated Lee Barnard of Middle Tennessee State, 6-3, 6-3, for third-place honors. Memishishi also won her first round match vs. SMU's Tiffany Hollebeck, 6-3, 6-2, but was bested in the second round by Georgia State's Eva Chivu, 6-3, 6-2.
Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to College Station, Texas and Texas A&M University for the annual ITA Texas Regionals Championship.
