MTEN starts Kentucky trip with sweep of USI

HARDIN, Ky. – Abilene Christian men's tennis began its three-day, four-match trip to the Kenlake Resort State Park Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of its old NCAA D2 rivals from Southern Indiana.

The Wildcats (4-5) won the first match, 5-2, and an hour later, head coach Hutton Jones produced a new lineup that posted a 7-0 victory. USI kept its lineup the same throughout both duals, coming away with the doubles point in game one in addition to a victory at No. 4 singles.

Between the first and second duals, Jones changed all three doubles lineups and flip-flopped three pairs of singles competitors.

This adjustment allowed his No. 1 and 2 combos of Jonathan and Josh Sheehy, and Brad Gleason and Henry Adams to double up their opposition, 6-3, and at No. 3, the combo of Cole Lawson and Paul Michael Domanski edged Martim Café and Spencer Blanford, 7-6.

Adams and Jonathan Sheehy lost at No. 1 doubles, 7-5, earlier in the day, while Domanski and Josh Sheehy were topped, 6-3, at No. 2. But Lawson and Gleason won their match at No. 3, 6-4.

ACU's sweep of doubles provided a strong catalyst for singles play as the Wildcats won all their matches in straight sets with no opponent scoring more than four set points. Double winners for the Wildcats within singles included the Sheehy brothers in addition to Domanski and sophomore Niko Moceanu.

Adams went 1-1 in singles competition, while senior Hunter Holman won his match at No. 5 in the first dual and freshman Joaquin Delgado was successful at No. 6 in the night cap.

The Wildcats are off Friday in preparation for Saturday's doubleheader vs. Tennessee Tech (3 p.m.) and UT Chattanooga (7:30 p.m.).
