Men's tennis wins doubles point vs. No. 24 Texas Tech
1/16/2018 9:39:00 AM | Men's Tennis
LUBBOCK – Abilene Christian men's tennis beat No. 24 Texas Tech for the opening doubles point but wouldn't earn any further points in singles as the Red Raiders rallied for a 4-1 victory Monday evening at the Lubbock Country Club.
The Wildcats fell to 0-2 with the loss, while Texas Tech improved to 6-1.
ACU brothers Josh and Jonathan Sheehy won the first doubles contest at No. 1 over Connor Curry and Matheus Leite, 6-0; however, the Red Raiders evened matters with their win at No. 2 where Artem Kapshuk and Ilgiz Valieve doubled up Henry Adams and Brad Gleason, 6-3.
This decision left the doubles point to be determined on the No. 3 court, and it was here that former Red Raider Hunter Holman and senior Paul Michael Domanski edged the duo of Justin Bloss and Jackson Cobb, 7-6 (8).
ACU's jubilation was short lived as Texas Tech won its first three singles matches at 3, 4 and 2 in straight sets, and then Curry avenged his doubles defeat with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 triumph over Josh Sheehy at the top line.
No results were made available for the No. 5 and 6 positions.
Men's tennis returns to action Thursday in Ft. Worth, where it's slated to play both Dallas Baptist (12 p.m.) and TCU (5:30 p.m.).
