Delgado wins debut draw at Aggie Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Abilene Christian freshman Joaquin Delgado won his first collegiate bracket this weekend, defeating four opponents to capture the Black Flight at the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational.
The Wildcats won 12 of 21 singles matches overall and were a stellar 5-1 during Sunday's final rounds. Delgado beat Alejandro Rosas of New Mexico State, 6-4, 6-4, in their championship match, and earlier he topped Christian Borrero (6-3, 6-1) and Scott Wheeler (6-2, 6-4) of Arizona Christian and Yohaun Prinsen of Mesa CC (6-0, 6-3).
Delgado is a 6-foot-2 competitor out of McAllen, Texas and Sharyland Pioneer High School, and prior to his arrival at ACU he ranked as high as 17th in the USTA rankings for the Texas U18s.
Elsewhere in singles, Junior Cole Lawson beat Michael Tran of New Mexico, 6-1, 6-4 to finish third in the White Flight and sophomore Jackson Fine defeated Prinsen, 7-5, 6-2 to earn fifth-place honors in the Black Flight.
Senior Paul Michael Domanski went 2-2 this weekend with victories over opposition from Arizona and Western New Mexico, but lost his final match Sunday, 6-3, 6-1, to New Mexico State's Sergi Espias to place sixth within the Crimson Flight.
Each flight started with approximately 16 competitors.
All three of ACU's doubles pairings were eliminated by the second round with Delgado and Fine finishing fourth (of eight teams) in their flight after falling, 8-4, to Arizona Christian's Vasquez and Wheeler. Domanski and Gleason won two matches to finish seventh of 16 teams after defeating Mesa's Rendek and Etzberger, today, 8-5.
