ABILENE – Seven senior ACU football players were voted captains of the 2017 squad in a team-wide vote late Wednesday afternoon.
Offensive captains for the season will be quarterback
Kade Munden, tight end
Trevor Crain and running back
De'Andre Brown, while defensive captains will be tackle
Dante Hibbert, end
Dylan Douglass, linebacker
Sam Denmark and linebacker
Royce Moore.
ACU head coach
Adam Dorrel said the team will have another vote at the end of fall camp to determine the eighth and final captain. He also complemented his team on their selection of captains for the upcoming season.
"These seven young men have been leaders on and off the field since the new staff got here in January," Dorrel said. "They've done everything we've asked them to do and are bought in to what we're doing to get this team ready to play the 2017 season. I know these seven guys – and the eighth when we add him late in fall camp – will provide tremendous leadership throughout the season."
Denmark is a two-time first team all-Southland Conference selection in 2015 and 2016 who will be a pre-season all-conference pick based on his first team post-season selection last year. He enters the 2017 season just 63 tackles short of becoming ACU's all-time leading tackler.
Brown, meanwhile, has rushed for 1,956 yards in the previous three seasons and is just 103 yards away from passing Charcandrick West (1,058 yards from 2010-13) for 10th on ACU's career rushing list. He needs to rush for 701 yards to move into fourth place on ACU's all-time rushing list.
