CONWAY, Ark. -- Central Arkanas jumped on top of ACU with three runs in the bottom of the first inning Sunday afternoon and cruised to a 10-2 win over ACU in the final game of a three-game Southland Conference series at Bear Stadium.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 12-33 overall and 2-22 in Southland Conference play, while the Bears improve to 27-20 and 15-9 as they improved their positioning for a spot in the conference's post-season tournament.
The Bears -- who swept the three-game series from the Wildcats -- scored three in the first and one in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. ACU scored two runs in the fifth on RBI hits by
Derek Scott and
Luis Trevino to cut the UCA lead to 4-2.
But the Bears answered with two more runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to push their lead back to 7-2. The Bears finished it off with three runs in the seventh.
Trevino finished the game 3 for 4 with one RBI for the Wildcats. Scott got the start on the mound for the Wildcats -- his first career start in conference play -- and went five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits.
ACU is back in action this weekend when it hosts Northwestern State in a three-game set at Crutcher Scott Field from Friday-Sunday.
