ABILENE – The ACU Wildcats will try to put an end to their three-game losing streak Tuesday night at home, but the task ahead of them is a tall one as they'll try to do it against the nation's No. 3 team.
TCU makes its first visit to Abilene since the 2015 season when they invade Crutcher Scott Field to take on the Wildcats in a non-conference tilt set for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. The game can be heard on 98.1 FM The Ticket. Prior to the game, ACU social clubs will host a tailgate party and the Texas DPS will be on hand with its impaired driving simulator. The 1881 Food Truck will also be at the stadium.
The Wildcats are 9-10 on the season after dropping three straight games over the weekend at New Orleans, which won in come-from-behind fashion on Friday and Sunday, including rallying from a 7-0 deficit Sunday to beat the Wildcats, 9-8.
The Frogs, meanwhile, are 14-5 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12 Conference after taking two of three from Kansas in Fort Worth over the weekend. The Jayhawks, however, won the series finale, 4-3, fending off a late-inning rally by the Frogs.
ACU will start freshman left-hander
Nick Skeffington on the mound against the Frogs. Skeffington (1-1, 9.45 ERA) was very good last Wednesday as he went 5 2/3 innings and gave up six hits and one run a 9-1 win at Texas-Arlington.
TCU will start left-hander Dalton Horton, who is 0-1 with an 8.00 ERA in three appearances. He was 8-0 with a 2.58 ERA last year in 13 appearances (12 starts) and was a freshman all-America by several publications and was a second team all-Big 12 selection.
The Wildcats are led offensively by senior outfielder
Russell Crippen, who is hitting .392 with one home run and 11 RBI, while junior designated hitter
Luis Trevino is hitting .382 with two home runs and a team-high 23 RBI. Sophomore outfielder
Derek Scott is hitting .351, while freshman catcher
Cole Solomon is at .333, junior first baseman
Koby Claborn is hitting .328 with two home runs and 15 RBI, junior second baseman
Dalon Farkas is at .326 and freshman outfielder
Anthony Dominguez is hitting .308.
TCU is led by Nolan Brown, who is hitting .343 with one home run and 13 RBI, but is the only Horned Frog hitting better than .300 on the season. Sophomore Luken Baker leads the team with four home runs, while Cam Warner leads the team with 17 RBI.
