Fal 2016 Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll

ABILENE - Over 100 Abilene Christian student-athletes, representing cross country, football, soccer and volleyball Friday were named to the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll. ACU registered the most honorees of the league's 13 schools followed by Northwestern State with 101 and Incarnate Word with 95.

"I'm extremely proud of the way our student-athletes performed in the classroom this semester," ACU Director of Athletics Lee De León said. " Our Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics, Chris Ballard, and his team do a great job leading our academic efforts and the progress we've been making over the last year is a reflection of his leadership as well as the commitment of our coaches and student-athletes to academics."

Wildcat football recorded its highest total in three seasons with 47 individuals making the honor roll led by 4.0 student-athletes Luke Anthony, John Bloom, Caleb Cobb, Kwame Darko-Mensah, Joshua Fink, Reese Gwin, Vasquez Haynes, Seth Hinnergardt, Deng Majok, Samuel Moore, Ty Nichols and Kevin Stallcup.

ACU women's soccer posted highest fall team grade-point average of 3.71 with 24 of its 25 players tabbed to the honor roll. Ten of head coach Casey Wilson's players finished the term with a 4.0, including Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year and First Team CoSIDA Academic All-America Kelsie Roberts.

Roberts was joined on the 4.0 list by teammates Caitlyn Acosta, Megan Baer, Alyssa Gerner, Shay Johnson, Meagan Kurosky, Brooke Lenz, Sydney Newton, Sophie Standifer and Natalie Throneberry.

Volleyball had 87 percent of its roster make the honor roll and posted a 3.56 team GPA with three student-athletes enjoying a perfect semester: Mikai Brown, Lillian Drever and Marybeth Sandercox

The cross country program continued to excel in the classroom as well with 20 of its 23 competitors making this distinguished list. The women's team finished the fall semester with a GPA of 3.61, while the men were a little ahead at 3.63. Perfect GPA's were attained by John Baker, Sierra Bennett, Lucas Bennett, Alex Faure, Alexandria and Michaela Hackett and Lincoln Jones.

Twenty-two ACU student-athletes recorded 4.0s, which helped athletics register an all-sport GPA of 3.10.

ACU had 90 student-athletes honored in the fall of 2015, and 84 made the list following the Fall 2014 term. Fifty four Wildcats landed on the honor roll during ACU's first year as members of the Southland Conference in 2013. Football did not have any honorees that season as it was competing as an FCS Independent.

The Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll acknowledges participants in all sports sponsored by the league and its member institutions. The honor roll recognizes student-athletes who maintained a minimum 3.00 GPA. Student-athletes, nominated by their respective academic advisors, must have been eligible to compete in a conference sport during the academic year in which the nomination occurs.
