Greater Cincinnati Invitational
Midland Racquet Club Invitational
Aggie Invitational
ABILENE - Abilene Christian tennis can be seen competing during its first weekend of the fall season at three major tournaments hosted in Midland, Texas, Las Cruces, New Mexico and the Cincinnati suburb of Mason, Ohio.
Representing the Wildcats' men's team at the annual Midland Racquet Club Invitational are
Henry Adams,
Nico Agritelley, and brothers Jonathan and Joshua Sheehy, while the rest of the 10-man roster will be dispatched to New Mexico State for the Aggie Invitational.
The women's team will be represented in Midland by
Ansley Boarman,
Lucile Pothier,
Erin Walker and
Whitney Williams, and for the Greater Cincinnati Open, ACU will have sophomore
Jordan Henry joined by newcomers
Sarah Eleanor Adams,
Autumn Crossnoe and
Elizabeth Ryan.
The Wildcats have made a handful of trips to the Ohio River Valley early in the spring season over the past few seasons, but this will be their first time competing on the outdoor courts of the Lindner Family Tennis Center, which plays host to the Western & Southern Open tournament on the ATP and WTA tours in late August. While there, the Wildcats will be bracketed into singles and doubles draws against opposition from 14 schools, including Akron, Butler, Duquesne, Evansville, Xavier, and hosts Northern Kentucky and Dayton.
Adams, Agritelley and
Josh Sheehy all are going to Midland together for the second consecutive fall. Agritelley and Sheehy went 3-1 as a doubles tandem last fall, reaching the semifinals after beating teams from Texas, Texas A&M and SMU, but this time around Agritelley will be paired with Adams and the Sheehy brothers will play together in doubles as they did for some of this summer.
On the women's side, Walker – a frequent competitor at Midland – will team with Williams, and Pothier will be with Boarman. Walker and Williams were Southland Conference honorable mentions in doubles last spring, and Pothier was a first team honoree in both singles and doubles, winning a combined 49 matches.
Pothier is making her second appearance at Midland, while Williams and Boarman are making their debuts.
Five Wildcats who have played previously at New Mexico State will play again there this weekend:
Paul Domanski,
Brad Gleason,
Hunter Holman,
Sebastian Langdon and
Cole Lawson. This group combined to win 13 singles matches and nine doubles contests with both Holman and Lawson placing fifth in their 16-man brackets.
