ABILENE - Former Southland conference champion and current Abilene Christian assistant track and field coach
Reyare Thomas completed her week-long stay at the
2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto Friday with a seventh-place finish in the finals of 200-meter dash.
Thomas recorded a time of 23.32 seconds (+1.1 wind) in finishing behind American gold and silver medalists Kaylin Whitney (22.65) and Kyra Jefferson (22.72), and Jamaican bronze medalist Simone Facey (22.74).Â
Thomas qualified for finals after placing third in her preliminary heat behind Jamaica's Kerron Stewart (22.97) and Jefferson (23.00) with a mark of 23.30 (+1.7w) and taking fifth in the second of two semifinals behind a time of 22.88 (+2.6w), which was very close to matching her personal best of 22.82 (+0.8w) from earlier this summer.
Thomas' next competition is the 15th World Championships, which are scheduled for Aug. 22 to 30 in Beijing, China. Prelims for the 200m take place Thursday, Aug. 27, while the final is set for Friday, Aug. 28.Â
In Toronto, Thomas also was part of Trinidad and Tobago's 4x100m relay but didn't get a chance to run in the finals as the baton was dropped between the second and third legs. Thomas was the team's anchor.
Trinidad and Tobago's 4x400m relay, which included Wildcat Jessica James, finished seventh in Toronto Saturday with a time of 3:33.31, and on Friday the squad posted a season best mark of 3:31.21 in the semifinals.

Johnathan Farquharson also was in Toronto this past week with the Bahamas National Team. The Southland Conference's 200m champion placed seventh in his 100m heat in 10.48 (+1.9w) seconds - .01 seconds from tying his personal best - and was fifth with his country's 4x100m relay in the semifinals (39.53 seconds).
Next for James and Farquharson is a trip to Costa Rica for the NACAC (North American, Central American and Caribbean) Championships, which will take place in San Jose from Aug. 7-9. They will be joined their by teammates Rosen Daniel and Corneil Lionel, who will be representing St. Lucia.
