Wildcats head to Houston to face Huskies in Southland tilt

HOUSTON – The ACU Wildcats carry their two-game winning streak to Houston this weekend where they will take on Houston Baptist in a Southland Conference matchup at Husky Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Huskies' new on-campus stadium. The game will be carried live on foxsportssouthwest.com with an over-the-air replay guaranteed within 48 hours on Fox Sports Southwest. ACU fans can listen to the game on 98.1 FM locally or www.the98x.com or portal.stretchinternet.com/abilene/.
For ACU fans who will be attending the game, the ACU Alumni Association will be hosting a free tailgate party at 5 p.m. at 7502 Fondren Road inside the HBU main entrance. Admission is free, but those planning to attend the game need to reserve their plate here.
The Wildcats are 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the Southland after last week's 21-0 shutout win over Incarnate Word at Shotwell Stadium. ACU has won back-to-back games going to into the HBU game, including a 38-35 win over FBS member Troy on Sept. 13 in Troy, Ala.
In that Troy game, the Wildcats lost their top two running backs to injury as starter Herschel Sims was knocked out with a concussion De'Andre Brown went out a short time later with a lower leg injury. ACU head coach Ken Collums said Sims will start Saturday against the Huskies, but also said that Brown's status for the game is still questionable.
ACU's sophomore quarterback, Parker McKenzie, has already been named the league's Offensive Player of the Week twice in the season's first four weeks and he leads the league in passing yards per game at 302.2. He's also tied for first in passing touchdowns (10) and leads league in completions (90), passing yards (1,209), completion percentage (69.8) and passing efficiency (167.9).
Senior wide receiver Demarcus Thompson leads the league in receptions (24) and is second in receiving yards (299) and receiving yards per game (74.8).
The defense is led by the senior duo of safety Justin Stewart and linebacker Lynn Grady, each of whom has 28 tackles through four games. The Wildcats are sixth in the league in total defense, allowing 391.0 yards per game and fifth in scoring defense at 25.0 points per game.
The Wildcats are averaging 37.5 points per game in their two road games and just 21.0 points per game in two home games. Defensively, the Wildcats are giving up 36.5 points per game on the road and just 13.5 ppg at home.
The Huskies (1-2, 0-0 SLC) are coming off the program's first official victory, a 72-6 rout of Texas College Saturday in Tyler. Sophomore quarterback Jonathan Fleming completed 12 of 16 passes for 206 yards and five touchdowns. The ACU transfer has completed 59 percent of his passes for 544 yards and six touchdowns this season.
On defense, freshman linebacker Garrett Dolan leads the Southland and is tied for 13th nationally with 11.0 tackles per game and also has 2.5 sacks, which is tied for third in the conference.
