ABILENE - This week's edition of the Wildcat BasketBlog was written by Paris Webb, a junior transfer from Arizona Central College. Webb helped her school place fourth at last spring's NJCAA Tournament behind an overall record of 31-4.
"Hey guys! My name is Paris Webb and I am transferring in as junior at Abilene Christian University.
"My summer has been spontaneous to say the least. After living in Arizona and attending Central Arizona College for the last three years (the additional year due to an ACL injury November of 2012), moving to back to Texas was definitely in my plans. Receiving an unexpected call from Coach Goodenough during my recruiting process was sincerely a blessing. I knew I wanted to be back in Texas, but in west Texas only two hours from my hometown of Midland, was even better.
"After two short weeks of being home it was time for me to head to Abilene and join my teammates. Over the course of June, I took intermediate Spanish at McMurry and a kinesiology class online. I also jumped right into working out with the team, playing open gym and working our ACU summer camps which was my favorite part of it all. Seeing how energetic the kids were about learning the skills and fundamentals of basketball sort of rekindled my flame for the very same thing.
"Everything in June seemed to be going fine until one day while lift weights I heard what sounded like men stomping rapidly, on the roof. Well to top off my fastly occurring summer, that noise was the sound of baseball-sized hail beating on the tin roof of the facility. I knew for certain that since my car was small and parked between two trucks, the hail might have been blocked. The complete opposite happened. My car had so many hail dents and my rear windshield had holes where the hail pierced through my window. Luckily the ACU staff and my teammates were willing to accommodate my needs, whether it was a ride to practice or the offering of kind words.
"Although my first month at ACU was quite the unexpected, I am now in California visiting friends for a week, and going to the beach yesterday made my summer even better. I am still working out and getting up shots, yes even on vacation. The grind never stops. I am so anxious for this 2014-2015 season with this years staff and team and I know we have great expectations as players for ourselves. What God has in store for us is indeed a special thing to look forward to!"
