Men's tennis starts road trip with 6-1 loss at New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Abilene Christian's men's tennis team lost 6-1 to New Mexico State Saturday morning at the Aggies' on-campus tennis center.

The loss was ACU's second straight, dropping the Wildcats' season record to 4-6.

ACU's lone victories were attained by No. 1 doubles team of senior Borja Cortés and sophomore Nicklas Wingord and by No. 6 singles player Marco Bensley.

Cortés and Wingord evened their record at 4-4 with a convincing 8-3 decision over Marc Westgate and Liam Goldberg, while Bensley - a sophomore - held off Charles Baron in three sets, 7-6, 2-6, 12-10.

All other Wildcats fell in straight sets with the exception of Wingord, who dropped a three-set decision to Paul Denele at No. 2, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

The No. 2 and 3 ACU doubles teams lost by scores of 8-2 and 8-3, respectively.

The Wildcats will remain in Las Cruces Sunday for a 10 a.m. match vs. their former D-II regional rival from Western New Mexico.
