ABILENE – Abilene Christian Athletics and its Students' Association are joining forces to bring in a large crowd for the Wildcats' final Saturday doubleheader of the 2013 season vs. archrival Angelo State.
The inaugural
#PackThePark event will feature a number of fan-friendly games, including Baseball Bingo and Name That Tune. Newly elected Student Body President Dylan Benac will throw out the first pitch, and free food off the grill will be provided along with some snacks and drinks.
Wildcat rally towels will be given to the first 150 fans in attendance, while the first 150 ACU students will get a free 'The Crutch - Pack The Park' tank top.
The weekend forecast also looks promising as it's calling for mostly cloudy skies with temperatures ranging from the high 70's to low 80's.
Fans who can't make it to Crutcher Scott Field can tune into Saturday's and Sunday's games locally on AM-1280 KSLI or via the internet at
SkyboxLive.com/show/acu-sports.
Grant Boone will call the play-by-play action for all three games.
The Wildcats begin their final weekend of the regular season with an overall record of 27-19 following Tuesday's 12-1 thumping of Texas-Permian Basin and are currently tied for second place in the Lone Star Conference at 14-10 with the Rams and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
All three teams are 3.0 games behind leader Tarleton State with four games left to play. The Texans play host to last-place Cameron this weekend and need to win at least twice in order to clinch the program's first conference title.
In its win over UTPB, ACU collected 11 hits and capitalized on four Falcon errors that directly led to seven unearned runs. The Wildcats No. 4 to 7 batters went a combined 9-for 15 (.600) with seven runs and RBI, while No. 3 hitter
Kyle Giusti walked four times and scored three.
In his first start of the season,
Brady Rodriguez (4-1) tossed 64 pitches through 5.0 innings and only gave up one run on five hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
Jordon Herrera pitched 2.0 scoreless frames following Rodriguez and
Austin Palmer finished things in the seventh.
The defending conference champions from ASU (30-16), meanwhile, are 17-5 on the road this season and coming off a 3-1 series win at Cameron. The Rams enter the weekend with a .311 team batting average with 20 home runs and rank second in the nation with 20 triples. They also rank 11th with 110 stolen bases.
On the mound, ASU is likely to start Jake Albert, Jake Feckley, Mike Weatherly and Michael Lange – a combination that has won 21 games and struck out 145. Feckley has won his last four starts and is second in the conference with a 2.17 ERA this season.
