Gibbs, Gale back together on ACU practice field for Pro Day

ABILENE – The former ACU pass-and-catch combination of quarterback Mitchell Gale and tight end Ben Gibbs were together on the turf of the Wally Bullington Practice Facility again Thursday at the annual ACU Pro Day.
Gale and Gibbs were the marquee players on the day and they both performed well. Gale showed off his strong arm and Gibbs exhibited absolutely no problems with the right knee he injured at the end of the 2011 season and kept him out of football in 2012.
"It was great to be back out on the field with Ben again," said Gale, who is the all-time leading passer in both ACU and Lone Star Conference history with 12,102 career yards. "I had a lot of fun (Thursday). Everything leading up to this has been hard and mentally taxing, but getting out here and running around and throwing the ball around was fun."
Only one team (Dallas) had a scout in attendance, but Gale and his agent, Scott Casterline of Dallas, said several teams have shown interest in him leading up to the NFL Draft, which is scheduled for April 25-27 in New York City.
Gale has a private workout scheduled with St. Louis next week, and he will also throw for the Bears next week. Gibbs is going with Gale to St. Louis next week to work out with the Rams. Last week Gibbs had a workout in Abilene with Carolina. Gale has also drawn interest from a couple of Canadian Football League teams.
"I'm getting the chance to fulfill a childhood dream and continue doing something I've done since I was six years old," Gale said. "My dream is obviously to go on and play in the NFL, but the chance to draw a paycheck from anywhere doing something I've done since I was a little kid would be great."
Gibbs suffered a severe right knee injury near the end of his senior season of 2011 and, despite sitting out last year because of the injury, he said he's hoping for another shot at the NFL this year.
"The knee is 100 percent; it's a total non-issue," Gibbs said. "The timing wasn't right last year, but I feel really good right now and I'm just looking for an opportunity."
