Volleyball Snaps Losing Streak With Win At Eastern New Mexico

PORTALES, N.M. - The Abilene Christian volleyball team held off Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon, 3-2, in Lone Star Conference play. The win snapped a three-match losing streak for the 4-6 (1-1 LSC) Wildcats, while the Zias fell to 4-5 (0-1 LSC).
ACU won the match by scores of 25-13, 15-25, 19-25, 25-17, and 15-13. Sophomore Sara Oxford finished the match with 18 kills and delivered the match-winning point in the decisive fifth set off an assist from freshman Sarah Siemens.
Siemens helped the Wildcat offense hit .234 thanks to a career high 56 assists.
Freshmen Corrie Reeder and Jennie Loerch tied for second on ACU with 13 kills, and Madison Hoover led the defensive effort with 30 digs.
ACU led throughout most of the fifth set, but the Zias came back with four straight points to tie it at 11-11. The Wildcats then responded with a Kalynne Allen service ace and a Reeder kill to go back up by two points at 13-11.
Eastern New Mexico would twice get back within a point, but Reeder answered with a kill that made it 14-12 and then Oxford hammered home the clincher after the Zias made it a 14-13 game.
Lindsey Barron led the Zias with 20 kills.
The Wildcats begin a three-match homestand Friday at 7 p.m. vs. Tarleton State.
