NORMAN, Okla. - The Golf Coaches Association of America Tuesday announced that Abilene Christian junior Alex Carpenter was selected to its NCAA Division II PING All-America Second Team. The three-time All-American and Little Rock, Ark., native helped lead the Wildcats this year to a No. 14 national ranking and a second-place finish at the Lone Star Conference Championship.
Carpenter won four tournaments to finish with a No. 11 individual ranking. He earned three victories during the fall before capturing his first outright Lone Star Conference title with a 3-under-213 at Trophy Club Whitworth in Dallas. Carpenter placed fourth a year ago, and as a freshman, tied for first place with teammate Cyril Bouniol.
Another highlight this year for Carpenter was being the lone DII player and first Wildcat ever invited to compete at the prestigious Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas. Against a field comprised of the nation's best Division I competitors, Carpenter placed among the top 20 with a five-over-221.
Carpenter began his spring season with four straight top-ten showings at tournaments hosted by New Orleans, St. Edward's, UST Mamiya, and Grand Canyon.
Carpenter on the season averaged 71.86 shots per round with a low of 65, which he shot at Abilene's Diamondback Golf Course during first-day action at the Charles Coody W. Texas Intercollegiate.
Carpenter is a two-time second team All-America (2012, 2010), and was a first team All-America selection following his sophomore year of 2011. He also is a proud recipient of the Jack Nicklaus (2011) and Phil Mickleson (2010) awards.
