LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Former ACU standouts Aston Whiteside and Daryl Richardson will be back on the field this Saturday when they play in the Players All-Star Classic at War Memorial Stadium.
Whiteside and Richardson will be playing for the South squad in Saturday's game, which kicks off at 3 p.m. Central time.
The rosters will spilt in a North-South format and be made up of a collection of talented players from all levels of college football who are rated as prospects for the 2012 NFL Draft. Prospects from the roster of a similar game played last year currently boasts more than 60 NFL players.
At the completion of his senior season in 2011, Whiteside was named first team all-America by the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) and second team all-America by Daktronics.
He was also named first team Associated Press Little all-Ameica, first team d2football.com all-America and honorable mention all-America by Don Hansen's Football Gazette.
Whiteside finished his career by earning first team NCAA Division II all-America honors from the American Football Coaches' Association, first team Super Region IV honors and Region Defensive Player of the Year honors from Daktronics, first team all-Lone Star Conference honors, and LSC Defensive Lineman of the Year honors in 2011. He's also an NFL prospect at linebacker, fullback or tight end.
Whiteside finished his four-year career with 31.5 sacks, which is good for second on ACU's all-time list, and he also finished with 57.5 tackles for loss (totaling 341 yards in losses).
As a senior in 2011, Whiteside faced constant double-teams each week from his defensive end spot, but it didn't stop him from racking up a career-high 40 tackles to go along with 6.0 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss.
Richardson had a quietly underrated career for the Wildcats. In three seasons (2009-11), he carried the ball 453 times for 2,303 yards and scored 34 rushing touchdowns. He is seventh in ACU history in carries, fifth in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns.
He finished his career with 38 career touchdowns, which is second in ACU history behind Wilbert Montgomery, and his 228 career points are fourth all time.
Richardson was a second team all-LSC South Division selection in 2009, honorable mention pick in 2010, and a second team all-LSC pick in 2011.
