ABILENE – Two former ACU Wildcats were part of the NFL's free-agent frenzy on Tuesday as offensive lineman Trevis Turner and wide receiver Raymond Radway were each signed to contracts.
Turner signed with the seven-time Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, while Radway inked his deal with the five-time Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys. Terms of the deals were not released.
Turner will join his Steeler teammates in Latrobe, Pa., on Thursday for the Steelers' 46th training camp on the campus of Saint Vincent College. The team's first practice is set for Friday and the Steelers' first pre-season game is set for Friday, Aug., 12, at FedEx Field against Washington.
Radway will join the Cowboys in San Antonio on Wednesday for the team's two-week stay in the Alamo City. The club's first practice is tentatively scheduled for Thursday with the pre-season opener set for Thursday, Aug. 11, against Denver at Cowboys Stadium.
Turner started in all 37 games he played as a Wildcat from 2008-10, helping the Wildcats to three straight NCAA Division II playoff appearances and compiling a 31-6 record along the way. In those three seasons the Wildcats put together two perfect regular seasons (10-0 in 2008 and 11-0 in 2010), won two Lone Star Conference championships and were ranked No. 1 in the nation for a week in the 2009 season, the first time in ACU's tenure in NCAA Division II that it was the nation's top-ranked football team.
Turner's best season was his last as he earned first team NCAA Division II all-America honors from both Daktronics and the Associated Press. Turner was also a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award (presented annually to the nation's top lineman) and was a first team all-region selection by both Daktronics and Don Hansen's Football Gazette. He was also a first team all-Lone Star Conference South Division selection.
He played in one post-season all-star game, earning the Jim Langer Offensive Lineman of the Game Award at the Cactus Bowl in Kingsville.
Radway was the Wildcats' third-leading receiver in 2010 with 32 catches for 438 yards (13.7 yards per catch) and five touchdowns. He played just two seasons of football after an all-America track career for the Wildcats.
