ACU Clinches 4th LSC Title

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- Abilene Christian University clinched their fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference Championship with a, 5-1 win over Midwestern State at Oklahoma City Tennis Center after rain postponed matches to Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead into singles play as they allowed their first match of the tournament dropping their No. 2 doubles match of Cassie Carver/Lauren White, 8-2. Julia Mongin and Jaclyn Walker took a close win at No. 1 doubles, 8-4 while ACU also won No. 3 doubles, 8-3.
In singles action ACU took made easier work of the Mustangs picking up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles with Walker and Micah Hermsdorf earning wins. Walker, the No. 2-ranked singles player in the South Central Region, won 6-3, 6-0. Emily Conrad clinched the win for ACU at No. 6 singles winning, 6-2, 6-0.
The win is ACU's fourth straight and seventh title in the last eight years. ACU most likely will host the South Central Regional tournament in Abilene again as the Wildcats are ranked No. 1 in the Region holding wins over No. 2 Cameron, No. 3 Northeastern and No. 4 St. Edward's.

No. 2 Singles: Walker, ACU, def. Odell-Michels, 6-3, 6-0.
No. 3 Singles: Herndorf, ACU, def. Lewis, 6-1, 6-0.
No. 4 Singles: Carver, ACU, vs. Roberts, MSU, did not finish.
No. 5 Singles: Natalie Friend, ACU, vs. Holcomb, MSU, did not finish.
No. 6 Singles: Emily Conrad, ACU, def. Huse, 6-2, 6-0.
Abilene Christian is crowned the 2011 LSC Women's Tennis Champion and earns the league's automatic qualification into the NCAA Division II postseason bracket.
