St. Edward's Blast Wildcats

ABILENE – St. Edward's blasted 25 hits en route to a, 24-11 win to split the season series with ACU on Tuesday in non-conference college baseball action at Crutcher Scott Field.
The Wildcats fell to 14-11 on the season with the loss as the Hilltoppers improved to 14-9. ACU returns to Lone Star Conference play this weekend as they host Northeastern State with a single game on Friday and a twin bill on Saturday afternoon.
On Tuesday, three big innings propelled St. Edward's as every starter recorded a hit for the Hilltoppers as they scored 24 runs against the Wildcats. It was the most runs allowed in a single game by the Wildcats since falling to Angelo State 23-6 on April 4, 2009.
Both teams combined for five home runs as St. Edward's went deep three times while Abe Williams and Sky Valenzuela hit solo shots for the Wildcats.
The Hilltoppers were led by Adam Shank who went 5-for-6, coming a single shy of hitting for the cycle. Shank doubled three times recording eight RBIs on the day.
Williams led ACU going 3-for-4 with four RBIs while Will Calhoun and JR Roland both recorded three hit performances. All three of Roland's hits were doubles as Calhoun doubled twice, as each player added an RBI respectively.
Brady Rodriguez picked up the mid-week start going two innings allowing six runs, four of which were earned and striking out two. The Wildcats used six relief pitchers all pitched less than an inning of work except for Brent Bray.
Bray threw 3.1 innings allowing two runs on five hits and picking up a strike out.
Matt Anderson picked up the win for the Hilltoppers pitching 4.2 innings all in relief scattering six hits and one strike out. Anderson allowed three runs as he and the other three pitchers did not allow a walk in the eight inning contest.
