LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The sixth-ranked ACU Wildcats ended their run in the Las Vegas Invitational on Thursday with a 7-2 loss to three-time defending NCAA Division II national champion and top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.) at the Darling Tennis Center.
The Lady Pirates (14-0) remained unbeaten on the season with the win, while the Wildcats fell to 14-5 after losing for the second time in three matches against three top-10 opponents. ACU lost to Lynn (Fla.) on Tuesday before beating West Florida on Wednesday. ACU will be back in action Sunday in Wichita Falls against Midwestern State.
The Pirates then won five of six singles matches, including a pair of 10-point third-set tiebreakers, to claim the match. The Wildcats' only singles win came at No. 1 where No. 4
Julia Mongin knocked off the nation's top-ranked singles player in Alida Muller-Wehlau, 5-7, 6-2, 11-9.
