Will Calhoun scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday afternoon to give the 19th-ranked ACU Wildcats a 6-5 win over East Central and a sweep of their three-game Lone Star Conference baseball series at Crutcher Scott Field.
The Wildcats grabbed two one-run victories on Saturday, winning the first game 3-2 before taking the second game 6-5.
The two wins push the Wildcats to 4-2 overall and 4-2 in the LSC, while the Tigers fall to 2-7 and 0-6. ACU will be back in action Tuesday in Austin for a 2 p.m. single game against St. Edward's.
In Saturday's series finale, the Wildcats led 5-3 before giving up two runs in the top of the ninth inning to send the game to the bottom half of the inning tied, 5-5.
Calhoun singled through the left side with one out and went to third on a
Bryce Gerhardt single. He then scampered home with the game-winning when relief pitcher Nathan Kindstrand delivered a wild pitch.
In the first game, the Wildcats struck first with two runs in the first as Calhoun drove in a run with a single before
Peter Goudeau drove in a run with a two-out single up the middle.
The Wildcats scored the eventual game-winning run in the fourth when
Abe Williams doubled to lead off the inning, and then scored on a two-out error by the Tigers.
Zach Sneed went 6 2/3 innings in a starting role for the Wildcats before turning the game over to
Kris Carlson with two outs and two on in the top of the seventh. Carlson got the final out on a fly ball to right field.
