ABILENE – The sixth-ranked ACU Wildcats split a pair of home matches Friday, losing to NCAA Division I opponent Louisiana-Lafayette before knocking off Tarleton State.
The Wildcats – a surprising 2-3 to start the season – lost to Lafayette, 6-1, before bouncing back to knock off the TexAnns, 7-2. ACU won't return to action until Saturday, Feb. 26, when it takes on Southeastern Oklahoma State (in Durant, Okla.) and East Central (in Ada, Okla.). ACU will then take on Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla., on Feb. 27, and Northeastern State in Tulsa, Okla., on Feb. 28.
In the Wildcats' win over Tarleton State, ACU started in a 2-1 hole after the TexAnns won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. The Wildcats' only win in doubles was an 8-0 win at No. 1 by
Julia Mongin and
Jaclyn Walker.
ACU then went on to win all six singles match, all in straight sets, including wins by freshmen
Micah Hermsdorf at No. 3 singles and
Emily Conrad at No. 5 singles.
In the Wildcats' loss to the Ragin' Cajuns, Walker and Mongin picked up a win at No. 1 doubles (8-5), but ULL won the doubles point by winning at Nos. 2 and 3. Hermsdorf won at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hannah Appleyard. ACU lost at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles in split sets.
