ABILENE – Abilene Christian's fall tennis season will reach its conclusion this weekend with the men's and women's squads being sent to the Apache and Kansas Invitationals.
Head coach Hutton Jones will be traveling with the women to Lawrence, Kan., while assistant coach John Walker will accompany the men to Tyler (Texas) Junior College. Notably absent this weekend, however, will be those who competed at last week's Small College Championships: Hans Hach, Julia Mongin, Micah Hermsdorf and Hannah Kelley.
On the men's side, though, two new freshmen will be making their collegiate debuts, Guilherme Gesser of Brazil and Lubbock's Michael Morris. Jones said he anxious to get both on the court for the first time.
At the Apache Invite, the Wildcats will be competing against six other schools, including Lone Star Conference rival Midwestern State, plus Collin County CC, Temple CC, Ouachita Baptist and UT Tyler. First matches begin at 8:30 a.m. both Friday and Saturday with two rounds of singles followed by two rounds of doubles in the afternoon.
The Kansas Invitational, meanwhile, features the host Jayhawks in addition to Indiana, Missouri, Iowa State, Kansas State and Missouri-Kansas City. The two-day competition will be split between six flights of singles and two for doubles.
