KINGSVILLE – Former ACU offensive lineman Trevis Turner was one of the stars of the night Friday night at Javelina Stadium as he helped his team win the 10th annual Cactus Bowl, 28-6.
Turner – a three-year starter at right tackle for the Wildcats – played for the Red Storm, which whipped the Blue Devils in front of 4,200 fans on the Texas A&M-Kingsville campus. Turner started at tackle in the game and helped the Red Storm rack up 464 yards of total offense in the contest (187 rushing and 277 passing).
Turner's efforts helped him earn the Jim Langer Offensive Lineman of the Game award. One of Turner's teammates was former Central Missouri quarterback Eric Czerniewski, who completed 8 of 13 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns to pick up Offensive Player of the Game honors.
Czerniewski – who won the Harlon Hill Award this season as the top player in NCAA Division II football – ended the Wildcats' season in late November as he led the Mules to a 55-41 win over the Wildcats in the second round of the playoffs.
Turner's impressive game was an extension of a terrific 2010 season that saw him earn first team all-America honors from both Daktronics and the Associated Press. Turner was also a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award (presented annually to the nation's top lineman) and was a first team all-region selection by both Daktronics and Don Hansen's Football Gazette.
Turner was also a first team all-Lone Star Conference South Division selection after leading the Wildcats to the first 11-0 regular season record in program history and the program's second outright conference title in the last three seasons.
