Wildcats take second at Coody


ABILENE – Central Oklahoma out-dueled Abilene Christian University on its home course Tuesday afternoon as the Bronchos came from behind to win the team title at the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate at the Diamondback Golf Club.

The Bronchos – who entered Tuesday's final round trailing ACU by one stroke (277-278) fired a final-round 281 to finish at 9-under-par 559.  ACU, meanwhile, checked in Tuesday with a round of 285 to finish at 6-under-par 562.

The day's biggest mover was Midwestern State, which rallied from Monday's 291 to shoot a 10-under-par round of 274  Tuesday.  That round helped the Mustangs finish third at 3-under-par 565 over the two rounds at the par-71, 6,977-yard layout.

Dillon Rust led Central Oklahoma's second-day charge as he fired a 3-under-par 68 to finish second in the individual medalist standings at 135 (67-68) for the two rounds.

Midwestern State's Tuesday rally was led by a trio of below-70 scores, which included two 67s and a 69.  Chad Bryant and Travis Klutts each fired rounds of 4-under-par 67, while Raine Copeland shot a 2-under-par 69 on Tuesday to lead the Mustangs.

ACU's only below-70 round of the day belonged to senior Cyril Bouniol, who followed his first-day 70 with a round of 69 to finish at 139 and eighth in the overall medalist standings.

For the Wildcats, Trey Sullivan finished tied for ninth overall at 140 (67-73), while Alex Carpenter finished tied for 15th at 141 (71-70), Tyler Sheppard finished tied for 17th at 142 (69-73) and Drew Norris finished tied for 27th at 145 (71-74).

Texas Wesleyan standout Zach Monson won the individual medalist title, following his opening-round 66 with a second-round 68 to finish at 134, one shot ahead of Rust.
