MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The seventh-ranked ACU Wildcats wrapped a disappointing weekend at the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic on Saturday as the they dropped a 7-2 decision to No. 6 Valdosta State in a women's match at Lagoon Park Tennis Center.
The loss was the Wildcats' fourth straight and leaves them at 20-7 on the season. ACU won't play again until next Saturday when it hosts St. Edward's at 11 a.m. at the Eager Tennis Center in Abilene.
The Wildcats got off to a slow start, dropping all three doubles matches as they fell behind 3-0 against the Blazers. On Friday, ACU's No. 1 doubles team of
Jaclyn Walker and
Julia Mongin won a 9-8 match, but Saturday the same team lost a 9-8 decision to the team of Hollie Bees and Natali Gumbrecht.
ACU's only wins came at Nos. 2 and 6 singles where Walker and
Natalie Friend were able to pick up wins for the Wildcats.
"You can't lose all three doubles matches and expect to compete, especially against a really good team like Valdosta," ACU head coach
Hutton Jones said. "I think we're coming home a better team after playing the teams we played down here, and hopefully we'll be better the next time we play against a team of this calibre."
