LAWTON, Okla. -- ACU gave up two final at-bat rallies Thursday afternoon as Cameron swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Wildcats at Cameron Field.
The Aggies scored twice in the bottom of the seventh of the first game to take a 2-1 win, and then scored twice in the bottom of the eighth of the second game to win, 4-3.
The two losses drop the Wildcats to 8-13 on the season while the Aggies improve to 10-8. ACU -- which won't play again until Monday when it hosts Incarnate Word in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at home -- is 1-3 against Cameron this season.
The second game might have been the most heartbreaking of the two losses for the Wildcats.
ACU trailed 2-1 before tying the game in the seventh on
Andi Anti's one-out home run. ACU then took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning when
Nancy Sawyers' two-out single to right field scored
Stephanie Tingle to put ACU in front.
But in the bottom of the eighth with a runner on and one out, Micah Lierly homered off ACU pitcher
Brittany Rexroat to give the Aggies the 4-3 victory.
In the first game, ACU first baseman
Candice Miller homered to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead and
Shelby Hall made the lead stand up until the bottom of the seventh.
Ashton McBride led off the seventh with a single and went to second on a sacrifice bunt. Lierly then singled to drive in McBride to tie the game at 1-1. Then with one out and Lierly at second, Drew Wright singled to left field to drive in the game-winning run.
