ARKADELPHIA, Ark. -- The eighth-ranked ACU Wildcats swept a non-conference doubleheader Saturday at Clyde Berry Field, knocking off Henderson State and Texas College.
The Wildcats (12-2 on the season) were forced to find two non-conference opponents Friday morning after their scheduled four-game Lone Star Conference series at West Texas A&M was cancelled because of poor field conditions at The Dilla Villa in Amarillo.
ACU knocked off Henderson State, 11-4, and then beat Texas College, 11-1, in a game shortented by the 10-run rule. Henderson State is an NCAA Division II member of the Gulf South Conference, while Texas College is a member of the NAIA.
In the first game, ACU rallied from a 4-2 deficit by scoring nine runs in its last three at-bats. The Wildcats took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh with four runs, three of them coming home on
Cameron Watten's bases-clearing double.
Cameron Aspaas went 5 1/3 innings and gave up four runs, but it was
Chay Lytle who got the win as he pitched the sixth and seventh for the Wildcats. Lytle,
Josh Crockett and
Brad Rutherford all worked out of the ACU bullpen and didn't give up a run.
In the Wildcats' second game of the day, ACU jumped on Texas College and never let up in winning 11-1.
Ryan Luckie had a two-run home run for the Wildcats and five Wildcat pitchers were able to get some work in on the mound.
