Wildcats knock off RiverHawks

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- A pair of early second-half goals proved to be the difference Sunday as the ACU Wildcats finished a sweep of a pair of Lone Star Conference weekend matches with a 2-1 win over Northeastern State in LSC women's soccer action.
Courtney Wilson scored in the 50th minute and Ashley Holton got the game-winner just 4:28 later for the Wildcats (7-2 overall and 2-1 in the LSC). Holton – who finished with a hat trick in Friday's 4-2 win over East Central – had four goals in ACU's two weekend victories.
The RiverHawks (4-3-2 and 0-2-1) rallied when Katie Valdez took a pass from Rachel Sordahl nearly 35 yards from the net, then beat ACU keeper Elliott London for a 2-1 Abilene Christian edge in the 80th minute. That was as close as it would get, however, as ACU applied stiff defensive pressure down the stretch and did not allow another shot on goal the rest of the way.
ACU will return to action this weekend with two big home matches, the first of which is a 4 p.m. Friday match against West Texas A&M at the Wildcat Soccer Pitch. The Wildcats will wrap their weekend next Sunday with a noon match against Eastern New Mexico.
