ACU Extends Home Streak to 24

ABILENE – The 20th ranked ACU volleyball squad picked up their eighth straight win as they took down East Central, 3-0 on Thursday evening in their Dig Pink match supporting breast cancer awareness month.

ACU jumped out to an 8-0 lead before the Tigers could tally a point as Neely Borger served seven straight points to start the match. The Wildcats were able to hold the majority of serve as East Central was unable to put together consecutive points until 23-10 where an attacking error from Jordan Schilling assisted the 2-0 stretch.

The Wildcats finished out the second set on a 12-4 run with three kills from Jennie Hutt to take a 2-0 lead.

Shawna Hines would add five blocks in the third set as the Wildcats cruised to a sweep of the Tigers. Hines led ACU offensively with 11 kills and a .450 hitting percentage while finishing the match with seven blocks.

On the offensive side of the net ACU was hot hitting .365 while only committing six total errors in the win. Freshman Borger finished with five kills not committing an error and finishing with a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage.

Defensively ACU was just as solid holding their opponent under .100 hitting percentage for the third straight match and 11th overall. Also one of the top blocking teams in the nation the Wildcats finished with 10 team blocks marking the 10th time this season ACU has recorded double figure blocks as a team.

Also the Wildcats extend their home winning streak to 24 games which extends from October 2008.

On the season ACU improves to 21-3 and stays perfect in the Lone Star Conference at 9-0. The loss drops East Central to 3-22 and 1-8 in league play.

Saturday the Wildcats will host Southeastern Oklahoma continuing conference action with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
