TOPEKA, Kan. -- The ACU women's tennis team will be competing this weekend at the ITA South Central Region championship at Washburn University's Tennis Complex.
The tournament begins Friday and will conclude Sunday with the regional singles champion and the regional doubles champion advancing to play in the ITA Small College Championships, which will be Oct. 15-18 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
Last year, ACU senior all-America Irene Squillaci won the regional singles championship with a three-set victory over top-ranked Zuzanna Osinksa of Northeastern State. Osinska got her revenge, however, in the doubles championship as she and Emina Spirtovic teamed to beat Squillaci and Jaclyn Walker, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Walker will be in the field for the Wildcats and should be one of the favorites to win the regional singles championship.
