ACU trying to extend streak

ABILENE - Entering the final week of the regular season the Wildcats have locked up a spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament for the seventh consecutive year. However, ACU is still playing for positioning as they are only one game behind West Texas A&M, andhold a two-game lead on third-place Angelo State.

The Wildcats have enjoyed a great season to this point carrying over a strong finish from last season. Combining the last 13 matches from last season with their current record ACU is 37-6 and are riding a 16-match winning streak at Moody Coliseum.

As a team ACU ranks either first or second in five of the LSC's statistical categories. The Wildcats are first in blocks per set (2.60) and opponents hitting percentage (.118) while ranking second in hitting percentage (.225), assists per set (12.50), and kills per set (13.50).

Not only have the Wildcats been one of the top teams in the LSC, but have ranked nationally in blocks per set led by junior Shawna Hines. Hines has led the nation in blocks per set (1.60) through most of the
season. Also her efforts have helped the Wildcats hold the top spot in the nation as a team with 2.60 blocks per set.

On Thursday the Wildcats will face a hot Javelina team that has won eight of their last nine matches. The Javelinas are led by senior outside hitter Kristin Chancellor, setting up what should be an interesting matchup at the net. She is second in conference hitting percentage (.323) and will get a chance to face the nation's leader in blocks.

Finishing out the regular season the Wildcats will entertain Tarleton State for Senior Day. Saturday's afternoon contest with the TexAnns will mark the final home match of the regular season for the Wildcats and three seniors. Outside hitters Michelle Bacon, Erin Curry and middle blocker Lauren Leone will be honored as they close out the regular season
