ABILENE -- ACU freshman placekicker Morgan Lineberry has been named the National Special Teams Player of the Week by d2football.com after his record-setting performance in last Saturday's 15-13 loss at Midwestern State.
Lineberry kicked a pair of field goals for the Wildcats for the Wildcats last week, one from 56 yards and the other from 51 yards to make him the first player in ACU history to have two field goals of at least 50 yards in a single game. Combined with his 52-yard field in ACU's win over East Central on Oct. 4, Lineberry is the first player in ACU history to have three field goals of at least 50 yards in one season.
Lineberry converted his first of two field goals with 1:05 left in the first half as he connected on a 56-yard yarder sending the Wildcats into halftime down 15-10 at Midwestern State. His 51-yard field goal in the second half was the only points scored in the second half as ACU fell 15-13 Saturday to the Mustangs.
Lineberry was also 1-1 on extra points on the day. He is 7-9 on the season having converted on all attempts over 50-yards.
His 56-yarder is the third longest in school history behind the world record of Ove Johansson's 69-yard field goal against East Texas in 1976. Bob Bearden holds the second longest with his 58-yarder against Angelo in 1969.
