RICHARDSON -- ACU senior wide receiver Johnny Knox enjoyed a record-setting night last Saturday in the third-ranked Wildcats' 51-7 win over Angelo State, and the Lone Star Conference office awarded him for his effort Monday by naming him the LSC South Division Offensive Player of the Week.
Knox set the ACU single-game record for receiving yards with 232 on six catches, and he tied the LSC and ACU single-game record for touchdown receptions with four.
Knox got his big night started on the third play of the game when he caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from Billy Malone. Later in the first quarter he caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Malone to give the Wildcats a 14-0 lead. He added a pair of third-quarter touchdown catches from 47 and 29 yards to put the Wildcats ahead 51-7.
He is only the ninth player in LSC history to catch four touchdown passes in a game, and he is the second Wildcat to do so, joining Scooter Phillips, who had four TD catches against Northern Colorado in 1985. Knox's 232 yards receiving broke the ACU single-game record of 228 yards set in 1985 by Reggie McGowan against Stephen F. Austin.
Knox is the third ACU offensive standout to earn LSC South Division honors this season, joining quarterback Billy Malone (Sept. 1 and Sept. 22) and running back Bernard Scott (Sept. 15) on the list. Inside linebacker Mike Kern earned LSC South Division Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 22, while senior placekicker Matt Adams earned LSC South Division Special Teams Player of the Week honors Sept. 29.
