ACU ranked No. 7 in nation

ABILENE - The ACU Wildcats will enter the spring golf season as a top-10 team in the nation after the GolfStaf national rankings placed them at No. 7 after a strong fall season.
The Wildcats - who won one tournament finished in the top four others - are the only Lone Star Conference team ranked in the top 10 in the nation. Central Oklahoma is ranked 18th, while Cameron is at No. 29 after the spring season.
Cal State-Stanislaus is No. 1 in the nation, followed by West Florida at No. 2, Florida Southern at No. 3, St. Edward's at No. 4 and Columbus State at No. 5. The second five is led by Barry (Fla.) at No. 6, ACU at No. 7, Armstrong Atlantic at No. 8, Cal State-San Bernardino at No. 9 and Florida-Gulf Coast at No. 10.
ACU - 174-11 in the fall against the rest of the nation and 4-2 against top-25 teams - won the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate in early September, and then finished third at The Territory Classic in Oklahoma. The Wildcats were a strong third at the tough Grand Canyon Classic in early October, followed by a second-place finish to Central Oklahoma at the Texoma Match Play Championship and a fourth-place finish last week at The Rattler Invitational in San Antonio.
The Wildcats finished the fall No. 2 in the nation in par-3 scoring (3.14, just behind leader Columbus State at 3.10), No. 9 in par-4 scoring (4.16), and No. 7 in par-5 scoring (4.82).
