Murray earns national honor
ACU coach, Naimadu each honored at national meet
BOSTON -- Abilene Christian track and field head coach Jon Murray was recently named the national men's Coach of the Year for NCAA Division II track and field. The award was announced at last weekend's NCAA Division II indoor track and field championship meet, which the ACU men won.
ACU freshman Nicodemus Naimadu -- who last fall won the NCAA Division II cross country individual national championship and cruised to a 12-second victory in the 5000 meters at the indoor championship meet -- was named the South Central Region male athlete of the year.
Now in his 14th season on the Wildcats' coaching staff and fifth as the head coach, Murray has now been a part of 84 Lone Star Conference, NCAA regional and NCAA Division II championship teams. Three years ago, he tied for the national men's indoor coach of the year honor.
Since becoming the head coach, Murray's men's teams have won five LSC titles, five indoor national championships and four outdoor national championships. The ACU men will be the favorite to win the team title at this year's outdoor championship meet, which will be May 26-28 at Elmer Gray Stadium in Abilene.
