2011 (Junior): Punter and kickoff specialist for the Wildcats who earned honorable mention all-Lone Star Conference honors as a punter in 2011. Covey punted 36 times in 2011 for an average of 39.6 yards per punt with a long punt of 60 yards (vs. West Texas A&M on Oct. 15). He was once again one of the nation's leaders with 19 touchbacks.
2010 (Sophomore): Kicker for Wildcats who played in all 12 games for 11-1 playoff after earning LSC title. Led nation in NCAA Division II with 39 touchbacks on 100 kickoffs, including 8 of 10 at Eastern New Mexico, 6 of 8 at West Texas A&M, and 7 of 8 in playoff loss to Central Missouri. Only 6 kickoffs out of bounds. Also had 4 solo tackles.
2009 (Freshman): Redshirt.
High school: Covey was a two-year letterman at safety and running back and handled kickoff and punting duties. He recorded 120 tackles (61 solo tackles) his senior year to go along with 4 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, 3 fumbles caused, 11 pass breakups, and 3 touchdowns on offense. Covey was all-district his junior year and District 6-5A co-MVP and team MVP as well as Dallas Morning News second team all-area his senior season. He was voted Outstanding Male Athlete as a senior at Coppell HS. Covey was also a four-year letterman and a two-time regional and state wrestling champion. He was a combined 84-0 over his final two seasons. Covey was recognized as all-area by the Morning News after both his junior and senior seasons. He also lettered in soccer.
