Had a solid spring and will battle for the backup quarterback spot in 2009. Served a redshirt season in 2008.

High school: Gale was one of the top quarterbacks in Oklahoma, a Class 2A all-state selection who was the No. 4-ranked quarterback in the state in the pre-season by High School Sports The Magazine. As a senior Gale threw for 2,216 yards and 26 touchdowns for a 10-2 squad that reached the second round of the playoffs. As a junior, Gale threw for 1,988 yards and 24 touchdowns, and as a sophomore he threw for 1,524 yards and 17 touchdowns. As a senior he was an honorable mention all-state selection by The Daily Oklahoman and Tulsa World. In three years as the starter, Gale led his team to a combined 32-6 record and threw for 5,728 yards and 67 touchdowns. Gale also lettered in baseball and basketball.
