2009 (Junior): Earned second team all-conference after playing in all 13 games for 9-4 NCAA playoff team. Finished third on team in tackles with 64 (31 solo). Led team with 16 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for 70 yards in losses. Second on team with 8.5 quarterback sacks. Also had 2 pass breakups, 3 QB hurries, 4 fumble recoveries, 3 forced fumbles, blocked kick and safety. At his best near the end of the season. Had interception in playoff loss to NW Missouri State. Had 9-tackle game vs. Texas A&M-Kingsville and back-to-back 8-tackle games against Midwestern State to end regular season and open playoffs.
2008 (Sophomore): Thompson started in 11 games for the Wildcats, missing only the team’s win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Sept. 13. He finished with 56 tackles (34 solo), 14 tackles for loss (75 yards in losses), and he also had 7.5 sacks (61 yards in losses). Thompson also forced 1 fumble, recovered 1 fumble, recorded 6 quarterback hurries and 4 pass breakups. He was voted first team all-Lone Star Conference South Division.
2007 (Freshman): Undersized defensive end played 13 games at the position as a true freshman, finishing with 51 tackles (29 solo), including a team-best 15.5 tackles for loss. He had 1.0 sack, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble returns, 1 interception, 5 quarterback hurries, 2 pass breakups and 1 blocked kick in a fine freshman season. He had a season-high 7 tackles (3 solo) in the Wildcats’ wild 70-63 win over Tarleton State on Oct. 27. He had a season-high 3.0 tackles for loss in ACU’s 41-31 loss to West Texas A&M on Oct. 20, and he had 6 tackles in three games during the season.
High school: As a senior in 2006, Thompson was a first team all-Greater Houston selection by the Houston Chronicle after posting 119 tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 29 sacks and 3 blocked kicks. He helped lead Houston St. Pius X to a 13-0 record and TAPPS state championship in 2006. He was an all-district and all-state selection as both a junior and senior.
