2008 (Redshirt freshman): Whiteside was voted first team all-Lone Star Conference South Division and was the division’s co-Defensive Lineman of the Year and the Freshman of the Year. He finished third in the league in sacks with 9.0 (minus-82 yards in losses), and he was sixth in the league in tackles for loss with 16.0 (minus-109 yards in losses). He finished the season with 30 tackles (20 solo), including 16.0 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks. He also had two forced fumbles, recovered four fumbles, had seven quarterback hurries, three pass breakups and one blocked kick. He returned the four fumble recoveries for a total of 58 yards, including touchdown returns of 29 yards
High school: One of the top fullbacks in the state in 2006, leading Vernon HS to the Class 3A Division II semifinals before a loss to Celina ended its season. Whiteside – a standout on both sides of the ball – ran for 1,934 yards and 24 TDs to earn first team all-district honors. He was the MVP of the Wichita Falls Times Record-News’ Red River 22 team and was selected to play in the Texas High School Coaches’ Association All-Star Game. He finished the game with five carries for 15 yards in a 14-0 North loss.
