Biography

Should be the Wildcats' starter at third base in 2007 after a breakout junior season in 2006.  2006 (Junior):  A true utility player, Sowards played third base, first base and caught for the Wildcats in 2006, and did enough offensively and defensively to earn first team all-Lone Star Conference South Division honors as the utility player.  Will enter his senior season with a chance to crack the career top-10 list in hits, RBI, runs scored, doubles and total bases.  The 2006 season was the best of Sowards' ACU career as he topped his previous career totals in every category except stolen bases.  He and all-America designed hitter Joel Wells led the team in batting average at .396.  He was third on the team with 74 hits and third in RBI with 41.  His biggest moment came on March 11 with the Wildcats in Durant, Okla., to take on LSC North Division rival Southeastern Oklahoma State.  With the series tied at one game apiece, Sowards came to the plate with his team trailing 7-4 in the top of the fourth inning and the bases full of Wildcats.  Sowards made his first career home run a memorable one as he delivered an opposite-field grand slam to give the Wildcats an 8-7 lead.  Three innings later after Southeastern had regained a 9-8 lead, Sowards started the inning with a single, and pinch-runner Travis Catalani eventually came around to score on a base hit to tie the game in a contest the Wildcats would win 10-9 on their way to a series win over the Savage Storm. He had the first multi-home run game of his career on April 7 in the Wildcats' 18-6 win over Angelo State in the opener of a four-game series the Wildcats would win 3-1.  Sowards had a solo home run in the fifth inning and then added a three-run shot in the ninth inning as part of a 4-RBI afternoon.  2005 (Sophomore): Sowards split the starting job with J-Bob Thomas, starting 22 games and playing in 29.  Finished the season at .339, the seventh-best average among the everyday players.  Caught five of 16 runners trying to steal during the season.  Had two four-RBI games with four in a March 18 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State and four more in an April 22 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.  2004 (Freshman):  Played in 39 games, starting 32 at third base as a freshman.  Hit .250 with 16 runs scored, three doubles, two triples and 17 RBI.  High school: Captain and honorable mention all-district as a senior at Heritage HS.  Two-year letterman who played on 25-6 district title team as a senior.  Personal:  2003 graduate of Colleyville Heritage High School. Born 02 November 1985.
