
Wildcat Pitchers Combine for Good Showing Against Mean Green

DENTON, Texas — The Abilene Christian softball team outhit North Texas and three pitchers combined to allow just two runs of the final 5.2 innings, but the Wildcats lost 5-2 on Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium.
It marks the first time this season ACU has surrendered five or fewer runs in back-to-back games. The Wildcats earned a 7-2 victory over UT Arlington last Saturday.
On Wednesday night, ACU collected eight hits, including two doubles, but could not overcome 3-0 first-inning deficit. North Texas used two walks, two wild pitches, a hit batter, a passed ball and a 2-RBI double to left field to score three times in the bottom of the first. Alissa Snipes spelled starter Lindsey Oliver after just one out.
In the third inning, Emerson Meggers was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Ari Maxwell, cutting the deficit to 3–1. However, North Texas responded with a run of its own, maintaining a 4–1 lead after three innings.
The Wildcats added another run in the fourth inning when Elizabeth Schaefer, who had her second straight game with two hits, doubled and scored on a single by Audrey Lacina. In the next frame, Schaefer doubled down the left field line which brought Ciana Arguijo home and pulled ACU within a run.
But, the Mean Green responded with a solo home run to left center in the bottom of the fifth and kept ACU off the board the rest of hte way.
Oliver pitched for just 1/3 inning, allowing three earned runs without giving up a hit, but issued one walk and two hit batters, and threw two wild pitches. Snipes and Ella Beeman threw 1 2/3 of scoreless ball each sandwiched around Makayla Valle who pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, including a home run, while walking one batter.
