ARLINGTON, Texas - Abilene Christian swept the Western Athletic Conference's men's indoor track and field weekly honors, the conference announced Wednesday. Andruw Villa was named the University Credit Union WAC Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Rhet Punt earned WAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week accolades.
Both Wildcats are on the heels of glowing performances at Texas A&M's Charlie Thomas Invitational in College Station last week. They are the first weekly track and field honors of each student-athletes' careers and follow Miguel Hall's WAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week recognition on Dec. 10, 2025.
Villa registered a first-place finish in the men's 5,000-meter among a field of 18 athletes, logging a personal best of 14 minutes and 9.54 seconds. It's the top time in the WAC this season by over 30 seconds and sixth in the NCAA South Central Region.
An Abilene native, Villa is an accomplished cross country student-athlete and has garnered WAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week distinction in each of the past two seasons.
Punt finished fourth in the men's weight throw with a season-best toss of 19.87 meters, or 65 feet and 2.25 inches. It's the best performance in the conference this season by over 1.5 meters and ranks seventh in the South Central Region. Punt is in his first season at ACU following two years at Garden City Community College.
The Wildcats face one final tuneup before the WAC Indoor Championships at the Jarvis Scott Invitational, hosted by Texas Tech in Lubbock on Friday and Saturday.
