The Wildcats made history last season when they broke into the FCS national rankings for the first time. After a win over West Georgia on Sept. 2, 2024, ACU appeared at No. 25 in the media poll. The Wildcats remained ranked for the rest of the season, and climbed as high as No. 10 in the media poll and No. 12 in the coaches poll.
ACU went 3-2 against other ranked FCS teams in 2024 with victories over No. 5 Central Arkansas, No. 12 Tarleton State, and No. 17 Northern Arizona. The win against the Lumberjacks was a 24-0 shutout at Wildcat Stadium in the first round of the FCS Playoffs.
The 2025 schedule includes games against three teams who are also ranked in the FCS Stats Perform Preseason Top 25 Poll, and two more who received votes for the poll.
The Wildcats' home opener on Sept. 6 is against Stephen F. Austin, who starts the season at No. 23 in the poll. SFA plays Houston on Aug. 28 before traveling to Abilene.
On Sept. 28, ACU heads to San Antonio to face UIW. The Cardinals land at No. 5 in the poll, and have been in the Top 25 for 54 consecutive weeks.
The Wildcats go toe-to-toe with rival Tarleton State for a Nov. 1 Homecoming matchup. The Texans start the year with the No. 10 ranking.
Fellow United Athletic Conference opponents Southern Utah and Eastern Kentucky fell just outside the Top 25. ACU travels to play the Thunderbirds on Oct. 18, and the Colonels on Nov. 15.
